The  Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition/Technical Advisory Group (DRCC/TAG) is involved in all aspects of the cleanup of the Duwamish River.  We are working to ensure the cleanup meets community standards by restoring environmental health and protecting the fishers and families who use the river as well as reflecting the priorities, values and will of the people who live and work in the region. The organization was founded in 2001 by community, neighborhood, environmental, tribal, and small business organizations.

Our work involves:

  • Advocating for a complete and lasting cleanup

  • Making sure sufficient pollution source control measures are in place to ensure the river is not polluted again after cleanup

  • Ensuring that immigrant and low-income subsistence and Tribal fishers can use the river in the same manner people can use other waterways in the Puget Sound area

  • Holding community meetings to discuss the Superfund process and cleanup efforts

  • Commenting and giving feedback on cleanup plans

  • Producing community-focused multilingual fact sheets about the Superfund cleanup

  • Providing guided river tours, habitat-restoration events, a river festival, the Duwamish Valley Youth Corps program, and other neighborhood activities that benefit the community and encourage community and environmental health, well-being and resilience

WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH THE CLEANUP?

Learn about the Roundtable -

Section 13.2.8 of the Record of Decision states: “Environmental Justice concerns will be addressed…through convening an advisory group as a means for the affected community and local agencies to work together on addressing the impacts of the cleanup on the affected community” * Agencies and community members interviewed as part of the creation of the Lower Duwamish Waterway (LDW) Community Involvement Plan indicated a strong interest in creating an advisory group with broad interests.

DRCC/ TAG continue functioning as a Community Advisory Group ( CAG) for this cleanup site. The Roundtable is an additional effort to make sure other stakeholders such as responsible parties, Port, City, County, Industries, community and fishers can come together to make recommendations to the EPA during the design and implementation of the cleanup.
