Youth Leadership

Putting Community First

The Duwamish Valley Youth Corps (DVYC) is a youth engagement program focusing on environmental justice and job skills. The circumstances in the Duwamish Valley have produced a vacuum of engagement opportunities for the youth, and DVYC is intent on filling that vacuum.

By providing experiences and lessons that are unavailable to the youth at home or school, the purpose of the DVYC is to enrich and build upon their own lived experience. We believe that providing more, and more thoughtful, curriculum and hands-on activities will give our youth the arena they need to grow as students and professionals.

As a result of community prioritization and requests for support, in late 2016 the Community Stewards program was begun. This program depends heavily on the train-the-trainer model, in which DRCC/TAG employs two “Master Stewards” who work with 3-7 “community stewards” to plan stewardship events and stewardship presentations/lessons.

The Maritime Industry is waterborne commerce- it's about moving people and goods over the water.

Maritime is most everything connected to the sea or waterways throughout the world, especially in relation to navigation, shipping and marine engineering. The industry has a direct impact on much of our everyday lives. Think about the oil that powers our cars, many of our vehicles, our electronics, the coffee we drink, foods we eat and the clothes we wear... most come from overseas.

Our Youth Leadership Council is a collective voice for young people in the Duwamish Valley to get involved and shape the priorities and processes of the work of environmental justice. Check out the awesome youth leaders who are active in our community!
