Growing next generation scientists and advocates for nature in cities

With new Federal investment in urban and community forestry there is tremendous opportunity to engage and employ residents in nature deprived neighborhoods. These residents and their family members may find their life’s work in planting, maintaining, studying, and advocating for more trees and access to green space. How might we best foster the passion for nature in city residents who may not currently see or appreciate the nature around them? What steps might we take to engage and connect these residents to local learning opportunities and start them on the path of exploration leading to a life-long career in nature study and advocacy. Please join us in this conversation and contribute your experience and suggestions for growing our community of science and practice for generations to come.

You’re invited! Join the Lower Duwamish Waterway Group for a free, family-friendly Duwamish River Boat Tour to connect with the community and learn about environmental cleanup and habitat restoration from the organizations working together to make it happen.

Space is limited, so advanced registration is required.

All ages welcome! The tour will feature informational stations, activities for kids, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages. Spanish, Khmer, and Vietnamese interpretation will be available.

People 18 years and older can reserve up to 4 tickets each. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are required for anyone who boards the boat, including children over the age of two.

Registered guests MUST check in and pick up their hardcopy boarding tickets at Pier 55 before boarding the boat. Check-in begins at 1:15 p.m. and boarding of the boat begins at 1:30 p.m.

Important tour information

Parking and transportation: A free shuttle bus will depart at the Metro stop on 14th Ave S at S Cloverdale St at 1 p.m. to take guests to the Pier 55 (1101 Alaskan Way). After the boat tour, the shuttle bus will return guests to 14th Ave S and S Cloverdale St. Keep in mind, space is limited.

There are several paid parking locations near Pier 55. You can see a list of them on Argosy’s website here. On-street parking may be limited due to waterfront construction. 

Boarding: Boarding the boat begins at 1:30 p.m. The boat departs promptly at 2 p.m.

Interpretation: Spanish, Khmer and Vietnamese language interpretation will be available. During registration, select the specially marked Spanish, Khmer, and Vietnamese interpretation tickets to reserve space with an interpreter. If you require interpretation in another language, call (206) 451-8191 by August 21, 2023.
